Hollis Brown
I was invited by Pitaya (imprint of HarperCollins Brazil) to develop the front cover and jacket of the book.
The briefing was to create a romantic scene between Hollis (the protagonist) and a spirit who is about to possess him.
Roughs
I always present 3 to 6 ideas (although I might start with 8 or 9), after reading the briefing a zillion times, reading the book, comments on GoodReads, Amazon, etc.
Colors
Here I also start working with typography

And something I don't share a lot, but I take a lot of pictures as references. For the general idea but also for details (like hand, drapery, etc) and, of course, external references for general mood and atmosphere.
